Regular Expressions

Regular Expressions supports how Zephr validates regular expressions in rules to prevent unsafe patterns and protect rule evaluation.

Zephr supports regular expressions in customer-configured rules. Some regular expressions can require excessive processing as executing particular patterns against particular inputs can exhibit problematic behaviour such as “catastrophic backtracking”, or unexpected consumption of resources for computation . These patterns can affect rule evaluation and application processing.

To help protect your rules, Zephr performs static analysis on regular expressions during rule configuration. If Zephr identifies a pattern as potentially unsafe, it blocks the applicable save or publish operation.

Regex safety validation applies to the following rule types:

  • HTML rules

  • SDK rules

  • JSON rules

  • Redirect rules

Zephr also checks older rule versions when you republish them.
