Level 2 and Level 3 data processing on Checkout.com

Learn how to integrate Checkout.com to process Level 2 and Level 3 card data for Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, and configure necessary settings for optimal data submission.

The Checkout.com payment gateway integration provides you the flexibility to submit Level 2 and Level 3 card data to the gateway for the following card brands in the U.S.:

  • Visa

  • Mastercard

  • American Express (only Level 2)

Prerequisites

  • Work with Checkout.com to correctly set up Level 2 and Level 3 requests in your Checkout.com merchant account.

  • In Zuora, configure the following custom fields on the Product Rate Plan Charge object: The API names (without "__c") of these custom fields are required to enable Level 2 and Level 3 data processing when configuring a payment gateway instance. For more information about custom fields, see Custom object definitions.

    • CommodityCode

    • ProductCode

Enable Level 2 and Level 3 data submission

To enable the support for sending Level 2 card data, Level 3 card data, or both to the gateway, configure the following settings on the configuration page of the Checkout.com gateway instance:

  • Enable L2 : To enable Level 2 card data processing, select this checkbox.

  • Enable L3 : To enable Level 3 card data processing, select both Enable L3 and Enable L2 .

  • ProductCode Custom Field API Name : To send the ProductCode field to the gateway, enter the API name of the ProductCode custom field without the __c suffix. This field is required to qualify your merchant account for Level 3 interchange rates. If this field is not specified, the Level 3 data will not be sent to the gateway.

  • CommodityCode Custom Field API Name : To send the CommodityCode field to the gateway, enter the API name of the CommodityCode custom field without the __c suffix. This field is required to qualify your merchant account for Level 3 interchange rates. If this field is not specified, the Level 3 data will not be sent to the gateway.

Visa Commercial Enhanced Data Program (CEDP) behavior

For Visa transactions processed through the Checkout.com gateway, Zuora applies Visa Commercial Enhanced Data Program (CEDP) rules to Level 2 and Level 3 data. When Level 2/Level 3 data processing is enabled in the Checkout.com gateway configuration and CEDP support is enabled for your tenant:

  • Zuora applies Visa CEDP formulas to item, tax, discount, partial or negative line items, and rounding calculations before mapping fields to the Checkout.com payment request payload.
  • Zuora dynamically sends only the Level 2/Level 3 and CEDP fields expected by Checkout.com so that unnecessary fields are not submitted and payloads remain aligned with Checkout.com's CEDP validation requirements.

This behavior is designed to help eligible Visa transactions qualify for Visa CEDP interchange benefits while maintaining consistent, high-quality Level 2/Level 3 data submission through the Checkout.com gateway.
