Renewal orders deletion when Split Segment by Term feature is disabled
This topic explains how Zuora handles renewal order deletions for Orders-based tenants when the Split Segment by Term feature is disabled.
Split Segment by Term feature
This section applies to Orders-based tenants who have the Split Segment by Term feature disabled.
When the Split Segment by Term feature is disabled, renewing a subscription does not create a new charge segment. Instead, Zuora extends the end date of the existing charge segment to include the renewal term. The segment number remains the same across subscription versions.
For example, if a subscription has charge segments 1 and 2, a renewal order extends segment 2 — it does not create a new segment 3.
Deletion of Renewal orders
When you delete a renewal order, Zuora reverts the subscription to its previous version. As the renewal extended an existing segment rather than creating a new one, the segment number remains the same in the restored subscription version.
As a result, Zuora automatically updates any invoice items that referenced the renewed segment to point to the corresponding segment in the previous subscription version. You can delete the renewal order even if the associated charges have already been invoiced, as long as other standard deletion conditions are satisfied. For example, there are no canceled invoices, credit memos, or debit memos referencing the segment.
The deletion outcomes by scenarios are listed in the below table:
|
Scenario |
Outcome |
|---|---|
|
The renewal extended an existing segment, and the charges have already been invoiced. |
The deletion proceeds. Zuora automatically re-points invoice items to the corresponding segment in the previous subscription version. The subscription term dates roll back to the previous term. |
|
The renewal extended an existing segment, and the charges have not yet been invoiced. |
The deletion proceeds, subject to other standard deletion checks (for example, canceled invoices or credit or debit memos that reference the segment). |
