Kintsugi integration workflow and validation
Understand how Zuora sends transaction data to Kintsugi, how tax results are returned, and how to validate the integration with a testing checklist before moving to production.
Transaction data
The integration uses the following categories of data for tax processing:
| Data category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Customer | Account identifier, customer type, tax registration, exemption status |
| Address | Bill-to address, ship-to address, country, state, city, postal code |
| Product | Product name, product identifier, charge, tax code, product category |
| Transaction | Invoice, credit memo, refund, adjustment, transaction date |
| Amount | Quantity, unit price, extended amount, discount, currency |
| Tax settings | Taxability, exemption code, tax date, jurisdiction-specific attributes |
Use complete and current address data whenever possible. Missing or invalid address information can affect taxability, jurisdiction assignment, and the returned tax result.
Tax results
Kintsugi returns tax information for the transaction submitted by Zuora. Depending on the transaction and account configuration, the response can include:
-
Total tax amount.
-
Tax amount by line item.
-
Tax rate.
-
Tax jurisdiction.
-
Tax type.
-
Taxable amount.
-
Exemption or non-taxable reason.
-
Transaction and line-item references.
Review the returned result in Zuora and confirm that tax amounts, tax jurisdictions, and exemption treatment are correct before enabling the integration for production billing.
Testing checklist
Test the following scenarios before moving to production:
-
Taxable customer with a complete address.
-
Customer with an invalid or incomplete address.
-
Tax-exempt customer.
-
Multiple line items with different tax treatment.
-
Invoice creation.
-
Credit memo creation.
-
Refund or adjustment, where supported.
-
Zero-dollar or non-taxable transaction.
-
Transactions in each enabled currency and jurisdiction.
-
Tax preview and final invoice calculation.
-
Retry behavior after a temporary connection failure.
Compare the Zuora transaction data with the data received by Kintsugi and confirm that the returned result is stored and displayed as expected.
