Payment Method Updater configuration

Set up First Data Payment Method Updater

Learn how to configure the First Data Payment Method Updater (PMU) in Zuora to connect to the First Data Account Updater service and process Visa and Mastercard credit card updates for customer accounts in the US and Canada.

  1. Register for the First Data Account Updater service.
  2. Create a First Data PMU instance in your Zuora tenant, and use this instance to certify with First Data.

  3. Request an SFTP mailbox from First Data. For more detailed information, see Request an SFTP mailbox from First Data.

  4. Obtain the public PGP key from your Zuora tenant and provide it to First Data for file encryption.

The Zuora First Data Payment Method Updater (PMU) service supports Visa and Mastercard credit cards in the US and Canada only. To use the service, configure a First Data PMU profile in your Zuora tenant and connect it to the First Data Account Updater service.

  1. In the navigation menu, click Settings > Payments > Setup Payment Method Updater.
  2. On the Setup Payment Method Updater page, select FirstData from the Updater Type list.
  3. Click Add Payment Method Updater.
  4. On the Add Payment Method Updater page, enter the information for your account updater profile.

    For descriptions of each field, see Field descriptions for First Data PMU.

  5. Select the updater services that you want to use: Visa Account Updater, Mastercard Automatic Billing Updater, or both.
    Note: You must be enrolled in the selected services through the First Data Account Updater program.
  6. In the Rules section, enter the number of days before the Bill Cycle Day on which the Payment Method Updater service starts.

    Zuora recommends a value of 5 to 7 days before the Bill Cycle Day, because the First Data Account Updater service takes approximately 3 to 7 days to process credit card account updates.

  7. Optional: Select Only update payment methods for customer accounts associated to this gateway/processor to include only the credit cards for customer accounts that have First Data set as the payment gateway in the Billing and Payment terms.

    By default, this checkbox is cleared. Clear the checkbox to send all credit card information to First Data.

  8. Select the Active checkbox to activate the First Data Account Updater in Zuora.
  9. Click Save.
    Note: If you have already configured a payment method updater profile, set the profile that you want to use as the Default.

The First Data PMU is configured in Zuora and is ready to process Visa and Mastercard credit card updates for customer accounts in the US and Canada.

You can submit a maximum of three million records per day. To verify the configuration before you process live data, select Using Test Environment on the profile to test the PMU process on a maximum of 3,000 records per day.
