Learn how to create, configure, and save reports using Report Builder, including summary and detail modes.

This the report creation workflow:
  1. Go to Reports & Dashboards > Reports.

  2. Click Create Report.

  3. Choose a dataset.

  4. Continue to Report Builder.

  5. Configure your report layout, fields, metrics, and filters.

  6. Preview or run the report.

  7. Save the report to make it reusable and manageable.

Understanding Report Builder

When you open Report Builder, the available fields come from your selected dataset. Here is how the Report Builder areas map to dataset concepts:

  • Row Groups and Column Groups: Use dataset dimensions to organize your data.

  • Value Fields: Add metrics defined in the dataset (like Sum, Count, or calculated metrics).

  • Filters: Apply report-level filters to narrow results within dataset boundaries.

  • Summary vs. Detail: Choose aggregated results or row-level detail.

Summary mode vs. Detail mode

Summary mode: Returns aggregated rows based on your selected dimensions and metrics. For example, sum of revenue grouped by account and month.

Detail mode: Returns row-level data from the Dataset without aggregation. Each row represents one transaction or record.

Ad Hoc vs. saved reports

You can run a report without saving it for one-time exploration. However, if you want to schedule, share, or export a report regularly, save it first. A saved report becomes a managed asset with version tracking and permission control.
