Advanced CPQ X functionalities

Enable and use Flexible Billing Attributes in CPQ X

Learn how to enable and use Flexible Billing Attributes in CPQ X, including prerequisites and configuration steps.

  • Upgrade to version 5.16 or higher of the Zuora for Salesforce 360 package.

    • To utilize Flexible Billing Attributes in CPQ X, ensure that you have upgraded your Zuora for Salesforce 360 package to version 5.16 or a higher version.

  • Confirm syncing service and enable Contact object sync for Flexible Billing.
    • Contact Zuora Global Support by creating a ticket and provide your Zuora Tenant ID. Request confirmation that you are enabled to Sync Contact objects for Flexible Billing Attributes in CPQ X. Please note that there is no external way to verify if you are on the latest syncing service.
      Note: To use the Currency Billing attribute in MSQ, upgrade your Zuora for Salesforce 360 to version 5.18 or higher. Enable the subscription object in the Zuora connector to sync the amendment or renewal Subscription Currency to Salesforce.
  • Trigger a mass update for Contacts in Zuora.

    • If you have upgraded from a previous version of the Zuora for Salesforce 360 package to version 5.16 or higher, it is likely that you will need to perform a mass update of all Contacts in Zuora. This mass update, even if no actual changes are made, will force a re-sync of all Contacts with the new data relationships required for Flexible Billing in CPQ X. Contact Zuora Support for assistance with this mass update.

  • To use Currency Billing Attribute, enable the Flexible Billing Attributes and Multiple Currencies features in your connected Zuora tenant.

    • Ensure that you have enabled the Flexible Billing Attributes and Multiple Currencies feature in your connected Zuora tenant.

    Note:
    • Failure to complete the above steps may result in the Subscription level Bill To Contact, Subscription level Sold To Contact, Subscription Payment Term, Subscription Payment Method, or Subscription Communication Profile not being visible in CPQ X. It is crucial to follow these prerequisites to ensure the proper functioning of Flexible Billing in CPQ X.

    • This contact-selection behavior is available only when Enable Flexible Billing in Quote Studio is enabled.

    • You need to enable the Multiple Currencies feature in Zuora tenant if you want to use the Subscription Currency field in Salesforce.

  • Check the known restrictions and limitations of the Flexible Billing Attributes feature.

Other considerations

  • In renewal quotes, it is not possible to change the invoice owner.

  • In amendment quotes, invoice owners cannot be cleared out.

  • From Quotes version 10.61, Subscription Bill to Contact and Subscription Sold To Contact fields are supported in the New Quote with New Billing Account flow. Quote Studio supports Salesforce Contact selection for Subscription Bill To Contact and Subscription Sold To Contact in create subscription, Terms and Conditions, Owner Transfer, and renewal quotes.

Note:

When you create a new Subscription Owner account and select an existing Billing Account as the Invoice Owner, Quote Studio can create only the two default contacts on the new Subscription Owner account. As a result, if the Subscription Owner is a new account and the Invoice Owner is an existing account, you cannot create and assign new Subscription Bill To or Subscription Sold To contacts at the subscription level beyond the two default contacts created on the Subscription Owner account.

With the Flexible Billing Attributes feature enabled, you can specify billing attributes, such as bill-to contacts, sold-to contacts, communication profiles, payment methods, payment gateways, and payment terms at the subscription level in CPQ X.

For the Subscription Bill To Contact and Subscription Sold To Contact fields, Quote Studio can display both synced Zuora Billing contacts and Salesforce Contacts in the lookup results.

If one account has subscriptions with different payment terms and contact assignments, you no longer have to duplicate accounts for different payment terms and contact assignments.

Flexible Billing Attributes allows you to specify subscription-level billing contacts and payment terms during subscription creation and supported amendment flows.

If you enable the Flexible Billing Attributes feature, you will need to provide the API Client Id and API Client Secret under Zuora Config > Zuora Connection Settings.

  1. In your Salesforce org, navigate to Zuora Config > Quote Studio Settings > Admin Config.
  2. Switch on the toggle Enable Flexible Billing in Quote Studio.
  3. Click Save.

    Note that the system will allow you to enable Flexible Billing only if the Flexible Billing Attributes feature is enabled in the connected Zuora tenant. Otherwise, you will receive an error stating Your Zuora Tenant is not enabled Flexible Billing. Please reach out to Zuora Support to avail "Flexible Billing" feature.
