Remittance Mandatory Switch
The Remittance Mandatory Switch in Zuora enforces remittance advice before payments are posted, improving auditability, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
The Remittance Mandatory Switch is a setting in Zuora that helps enforce better payment posting discipline. When enabled, it prevents or warns users from posting payments that do not have valid remittance advice linked — depending on how strictly you choose to enforce it.
This feature improves auditability, reduces posting errors, and ensures your team has all necessary context before applying payments.
Why enforce remittance?
Audit & Compliance: Ensures clear traceability of why and how a payment was applied
Accuracy: Prevents guesswork or incorrect invoice matching
Operational Efficiency: Reduces suspense payments and rework
Faster Month-End Closures: Eliminates ambiguity and delays
To enable: Go to Settings > Cash Application > Apply & Post
Remittance enforcement rules
Zuora validates the presence of remittance advice before a payment can be posted. Depending on the enforcement level configured, the behavior changes as follows:
Manual posting
If Strict Enforcement is enabled:
Users cannot post a payment without attaching a remittance.
A blocking message appears:
Posting blocked: Please attach remittance advice before proceeding.
The Post button remains disabled until a remittance file is added.
If Custom Enforcement is enabled: Users receive a confirmation warning if no remittance is attached.
Bulk posting
The system automatically skips any payments that do not have remittance advice attached.
After processing, you would be showed an alert that posting is not possible.
The list of affected Payment IDs is shown for easy review and action.
Auto posting
Payments missing remittance advice are automatically skipped.
Exceptions
Suspense Payments (unlinked to any customer or invoice) are not subject to remittance checks.
For payments without remittance there are UI filters for identifying payments with no remittance linked.
Users can still attach a custom remittance to a payment before posting.
