Commitment acceleration

This topic explains how to accelerate a commitment to bill remaining unbilled prepaid installments earlier than scheduled.

Acceleration allows you to bill the remaining unbilled prepaid installments earlier than originally scheduled. You can trigger acceleration from the commitment period UI or through the API. When acceleration is triggered, all unbilled installments for the current commitment period are billed immediately.

Trigger acceleration

You can trigger acceleration in the following ways:

  • From the commitment period page in the Zuora UI, using the Accelerate button.

  • Through the API -

Acceleration behavior

When acceleration is triggered, Zuora bills the remaining unbilled installments immediately. The resulting invoice items follow the original installment structure for the remaining balance.

The following example shows how acceleration works for a monthly prepaid commitment:

Description

Amount

Commitment amount

$1,200

Prepayment frequency

Monthly

Billed to date

$500

Consumed to date

$1,200

Remaining amount billed immediately

$700

In this example, the remaining $700 is billed as 7 invoice items of $100 each, corresponding to the 7 unbilled monthly installments.

Note:

Acceleration generates invoice items based on the original installment structure for the remaining balance.
