Configure Billing settings

System settings

System settings influence billing and overall system functionality, including feature toggling and customization of currencies and units of measure.

System settings not only apply to the billing process but can also impact the whole system. For example, you can use system settings to enable or disable specific features for your environment, or you can customize currencies or the units of measure (UOM) in the system.

Customization of currencies

Zuora Billing allows customization of billing in various currencies, enabling global transactions with options to add, activate, and configure currency settings.

Zuora Billing provides you the flexibility of billing your global customers in different currencies.

On the Customize Currencies page, to add a currency type, click Add New Currency and edit the following options. When you are done editing the fields, click Save to add the currency.

Description

Active

Specify whether your company is currently using the applicable currency. If the Active box is selected, it means your company is selling products and services in the applicable currency. If the Active check box is not selected, it means your company is not selling any products or services in the applicable currency.

Alphabetic Code

Use this field to select a currency type from a list of world currencies.

Rounding Mode

Allows you to define whether a currency should be rounded Down , Up , or Half Up . By default, Zuora uses Half Up rounding on all currencies (for example, where 3.49 is rounded to 3 and 3.50 is rounded to 4). The Down and Up options are useful if you need to use a different rounding mode for a particular currency (for example, in Japan, it is often the case that currency values are rounded Down to the nearest Yen).

Rounding Increment

Allows you to define the currency increment used for rounding. This is useful if you are working with currencies that do not round to the nearest cent (for example, Swiss francs are typically rounded to the nearest 5 cents).

Do not apply when calculating inclusive taxes : Select this option if you don't want to round the tax amounts when using inclusive taxes.

This option appears if your rounding increment is not the smallest possible value, given the currency's decimal place setting. If you choose this option, the inclusive tax carve out will be rounded to the smallest possible currency value rather than your specified rounding increment.

For example, if you set the rounding increment to 0.05 (to the nearest 5 cents) and select this option, the inclusive tax carve out will still be rounded to the nearest penny.

Rate

To fully customize a currency for use, you must specify the exchange rate for that currency.

Customization of units of measure

Learn how to customize units of measure (UOM) for your company, including creating, editing, and managing UOM settings.

You can customize the unit of measure (UOM) for your company to measure the use of your services, such as, minutes, people, seats, and licenses can all be units of measure.

UOM settings

To create a new custom UOM, on the Customize Unit of Measures page, click Add New UOM at the bottom and enter information for the fields listed in the table below. All fields except for Displayed As are required. You can create as many custom UOMs as your company requires.

You can edit or delete the UOM by clicking Edit or Remove to the right of your UOM. However, you cannot delete a UOM or update its name if it is in use, such as in subscription rate plan charges or usage records.

SettingDescription
ActiveSelect the Active box next to the UOM to activate the UOM for use in your product catalog. If you do not select Active, the UOM cannot be used in any new rate plans within your product catalog.
NameThe name of the UOM that you enter here is shown in labels and lists within Zuora Billing. For example, a name can be "clicks" or "seats."
Displayed AsUse the Displayed As option to enter a name for the UOM that you want displayed on your invoices. The Displayed As name can be the same as the name of your UOM (as entered in the Name field), or it can be different.
Decimal PlacesThis is the number of digits to the right of the decimal point that you want to use when displaying the UOM. The value in this field must be 0 or a positive integer.
Note: When using Level 2 and Level 3 with a payment gateway integration, we recommend sending an integer value for quantity, because some gateways require integer quantities in Level 3 data. For details, see, Payment Gateway Configuration.
RoundingYou can specify whether or not your usage value (if it has too many decimal places), should be rounded up or down.
Usage Log File LabelThe text to look for in the column heading of the usage log file.

Some tenants use the same value for the Name, Displayed As, and Usage Log File Label fields. After the name of a UOM is added, Zuora Billing will use that same name in the Displayed As and Usage Log File Label fields. You can edit the fields if necessary.

Create fractional units of measure

Learn how to create fractional units of measure by configuring decimal places and rounding options.

To create fractional units of measure, complete the following steps:

  1. Click your username at the top right and navigate to​​​​​​ Billing > Customize Units of Measure .
  2. On the Customize Unit of Measures page, click Add New UOM .
  3. Specify information about the UOM. Use the Decimal Places and Rounding field to configure the UOM as a fractional measure.

    • Decimal Places : Enter the number of decimal places required for the fraction.

    • Rounding : Select the rounding option that you want to use, Up or Down , if the fraction exceeds the specified number of decimal places.

  4. Click S ave .

You cannot edit the Decimal Places field after saving the new unit of measure. This prevents users from making changes to subscriptions that use the unit of measure.

Enable billing features by yourself

Learn how to enable billing features in Zuora by verifying user role permissions and managing feature settings.

To use the Feature Management setting, you must have the Manage Billing Settings permission enabled for your user role.

Follow these steps to verify if this permission is enabled for a specific user role:

  1. Log into your Zuora tenant as an administrator.
  2. Click the drop-down list next to your user name and select Administration.
  3. Click Manage User Roles.
  4. Select Billing from View Role List.
  5. Click View for the target user role such as Zuora Billing User.
  6. Scroll down to the Admin section to ensure that the Manage Billing Settings is selected.

To request enabling features from the Feature Management interface, perform the following steps:

  1. Click the drop-down next to your user name from the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Select Billing > Manage Features .
  3. Select the feature name to adopt for testing and click Enable. Make sure that the feature dependencies are resolved.
  4. Click Enable Feature to activate the feature.
    Note:

    The Enable Feature option is unavailable when the feature is in the Unresolved status. Enable the feature dependencies from Feature Management for activation.

    You cannot undo a feature adoption from the self-service interface after enabling it. To disable the feature adoption, contact Zuora Global Support.
