Configure dynamic soft descriptors for CyberSource

Configure Zuora to send a dynamic soft descriptor to CyberSource for supported credit card transactions. The descriptor is sourced from a field on the Account or Payment object and appears on the customer's card statement.

  • Configure a CyberSource, Payment API v2.0 gateway instance.
  • Make sure that the Account or Payment field you want to use contains the expected value when the transaction is processed.
  • If you want to use a fallback value, configure the static Soft Descriptor field on the CyberSource gateway instance. For more information, see Configuration fields.

Dynamic soft descriptors can help customers recognize transactions more easily and may help reduce chargebacks caused by unrecognized charges.

  1. In the Zuora user interface, click your username in the upper-right corner and navigate to Payments > Payment Settings > Define Payment Rules.
  2. In the Select the source field for Soft Descriptors to appear on statements section, select a field from the Account or Payment object.
You can select a supported standard field or custom field.
  3. Click Save.

After you save the payment rule, Zuora uses the value from the selected field for subsequent supported CyberSource transactions.

Zuora sends the selected value to CyberSource for credit card transactions that use the following operations:

  • Payment method validation
  • Authorization
  • Sale
  • 3DS2 transactions
Note: When a dynamic value is available, it takes precedence over the static soft descriptor configured on the CyberSource gateway instance.

If the selected field does not contain a value when the transaction is processed, Zuora uses the static soft descriptor configured on the gateway instance.
