Identifiers Used in Payment Processing
This document outlines the identifiers used in payment processing, including PAN, gateway payment method identifiers, and network tokens.
Zuora can use the following identifiers:
- PAN (primary account number) - The 16‑digit card number collected from the payer and stored securely in Zuora.
- Gateway payment method identifier (gateway token) - The gateway‑generated ID returned after a successful PAN‑based transaction.
- It is specific to a single gateway.
- It is not a real card number.
- Network token - A 16‑digit surrogate card number issued by the card network, obtained via Worldpay’s token provisioning service.
- It is tied to the merchant and the card.
- It is gateway‑agnostic within the set of gateways where Zuora supports network tokens.
