Experience Builder technical overview

Experience Builder is a visual development platform that lets teams design, build, and manage customer-facing experiences using reusable components, integrations, and custom business logic.

Experience Builder is a visual development platform that enables teams to build and manage customer-facing experiences such as portals, checkout flows, registration journeys, and embedded experiences. It provides a visual editor for creating pages and user journeys while supporting reusable components, integrations, and custom business logic.

Experience Builder works with existing applications, APIs, and back-end services. Developers can define reusable components and integrations, while designers, marketers, administrators, and content editors can create and update experiences through a visual interface.

The following diagram shows the main components of Experience Builder and how they interact with external systems and customer-facing experiences:

Experience Builder in your architecture

Experience Builder separates experience authoring from runtime execution.

Authors and builders use the visual editor to create pages and user journeys. At runtime, Experience Builder connects those experiences to data sources, APIs, authentication providers, payment systems, content management systems (CMS), and other external services.

Experience Builder supports:

  • Visual page and experience creation

  • Reusable components and shared design systems

  • Responsive layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices

  • Integrations with APIs and external services

  • Data-driven behavior and workflow automation

  • Localization and personalization capabilities

  • Extension through custom components and business logic

Typical workflow

A typical Experience Builder workflow looks like this:

  1. Developers set up the required integrations, reusable components, and any custom business logic needed for the experience.

  2. Designers, marketers, administrators, content editors, or developers create and update pages and user journeys in the visual editor.

  3. Experience Builder connects the experience to the required data sources, APIs, and services.

  4. Teams preview, validate, and publish changes through the supported publishing workflow.

  5. End users interact with the published experience, such as a portal, checkout flow, registration journey, or embedded experience.
