Credit and debit memo adjustment from invoice items

This approach allows standalone (ad-hoc) credit or debit memos generated from invoice items to directly influence the commitment balance

Key rules and behavior

  • Precondition: To adjust a commitment balance, the ad-hoc credit or debit memo must be credited to or debited from an invoice item that has already contributed to that specific commitment.

  • Supported documents: Only Credit Memos and Debit Memos from Invoice are supported. Standalone memo from product, standalone invoices, Invoice Adjustments (IA), and Invoice Item Adjustments (IIA) are not supported.

  • Full application only: Zuora only supports the contribution of the full applied memo amount. If in any case the applied amount is partially contributed, it is not supported, customers need to split the applied amount when the memo is created.

  • Contribution Rules:

    • Only If an original invoice item contributed to a commitment, can the memo created from the invoice be contributed.

    • If a discount is a standalone item based on the 'Create credit memos mirroring invoice items' billling rule, it will be contributed separately and not as a discount item.

  • You can create memos to adjust commitment balances through the Zuora UI or API. Select Contribute To Commitment on memo items that should adjust the commitment balance. You can view commitment contribution items on the memo details page.
