Permissions and access

In the new Reporting experience, permissions at the dataset and report levels control who can view, run, edit, or manage reports, and you may need access to both to use a report successfully.

In the new Reporting experience, permissions are layered:

  • Dataset permissions: Control who can view, edit, or administer the dataset.
  • Report permissions: Control who can view, run, edit, or manage the report.

You may need access to both the dataset and the report to use it. If you see a report but cannot run it, you might lack permission to access the underlying dataset.

Dataset-level filters and permissions

Dataset-level filters are enforced for all users, regardless of report-level permissions. For example, if a Dataset filters out archived accounts, even users with full report access cannot override that constraint. This ensures consistent data governance across all reports.

Troubleshooting access issues

If you encounter access errors:

  • Verify that you have permission to access the report.
  • Verify that you have permission to access the underlying dataset.
  • Check that the dataset has not been retired or moved to a status that blocks access.
  • Contact your administrator if permissions need to be updated.
