Modify or disable an active hold template

Understand how Zuora Revenue locks active hold templates, and what steps are required before you can modify or disable them.

Zuora Revenue enforces strict system guardrails to protect active transactions from configuration conflicts.

If a hold template is currently applied to any revenue contract, the system locks the template. You cannot modify its configuration or toggle the Enabled switch to No while active holds exist.

To edit or retire a locked template, you must first release all active instances of that hold across your contracts. Once every instance of the hold is successfully released and cleared from the system, the template will automatically become editable again.

Access and Roles

Hold-related actions in Zuora Revenue are controlled through role privileges. Depending on how your organization assigns roles, users may have access to configure hold templates, view holds, apply holds, release holds, or run hold-related mass actions. Apply and release are controlled separately.

Work with your administrator to assign the appropriate privileges when configuring roles. For information about roles, privileges, and user assignment, see User access.

What to do next

Once the hold is saved and enabled, it is ready for use:

  • If Allow Manual Apply is set to Yes, you can immediately apply the hold to eligible contracts via the Workbench.

  • If automation rules were configured, the system will evaluate and auto-apply the hold during the next Data Collection process.
