Commitment balance adjustments
Learn how to adjust commitment balances in Zuora using contribution charge adjustments or standalone credit and debit memo adjustments.
In Zuora, commitments represent contractual obligations - either as postpaid minimum spend guarantees or as prepaid spend balances. Over the course of a commitment lifecycle, you may need to adjust the remaining balance of a commitment period due to renegotiations, goodwill exceptions, or error corrections.
Zuora supports two approaches for modifying commitment balances:
Contribution charge adjustment: Direct system-driven adjustment from the modification of the contribution charges.
Credit and debit memo adjustment from invoice items: Ad-hoc memos applied to contributing invoices.
Considerations
Locked commitment periods: Adjustments are blocked on commitment periods that have a
Cancelledstatus.Ad-hoc standalone invoices: Ad-hoc memos from product rate plan charges, standalone invoices, Invoice Adjustments (IA), and Invoice Item Adjustments (IIA) are not allowed to contribute or adjust commitment balances.
Multi-currency restrictions: The currency of the adjustment, credit memo, or debit memo must strictly match the commitment/prepayment currency. Multi-currency cross-contribution and commitment are not supported.
