Subscription owner and invoice owner for child quotes in Multi Subscription Quoting
In Quote Studio, you can configure a different Subscription Owner and, in some cases, a different Invoice Owner for each child quote in a Multi Subscription Quoting (MSQ).
In Multi Subscription Quoting (MSQ), the parent quote represents the order header in Zuora Orders. Because a Zuora order is associated with a single billing account, the Billing Account section and its related fields are available only at the parent quote level.
An MSQ is created from one Salesforce opportunity that is associated with one Salesforce account. That Salesforce account maps to the order-level billing account in Zuora, and CPQ does not support associating one MSQ with multiple Salesforce accounts.
Although the order-level billing account is shared, Quote Studio supports per-subscription billing flexibility through two separate mechanisms:
The Subscription Owner section controls which Zuora billing account owns each child subscription and can also control which account invoices it.
The Subscription Billing Attributes section controls subscription-level billing details such as Bill To Contact, Sold To Contact, Payment Term, Invoice Template, Sequence Set, and Invoice Group Number within the context of the assigned owner account. See Billing attributes for Flexible Billing Attributes.
The Subscription Owner section is controlled by the zqu__CPQX_Subscription_Owner field set on the Quote object. See Configure subscription owner field set.
This capability is available starting from Quotes version 10.26.
Prerequisites
Ensure that Multi Subscription Quoting is enabled in your Salesforce org. See Enable Multi Subscription Quoting.
You are creating a New Multi-Sub Billing Account quote. For important flow-specific restrictions, see When the Subscription Owner section appears.
Configure the zqu__CPQX_Subscription_Owner field set with the fields required for your org. See Configure subscription owner field set.
When the Subscription Owner section appears
The Subscription Owner section is shown at the child quote level, but the Subscription Owner Type field is visible only in specific MSQ flows.
MSQ quote flow | Subscription Owner Type field visible? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New Multi-Sub Billing Account | Yes | The child quote does not yet have a Zuora Account ID, so the Subscription Owner Type field is editable. |
| New Multi-Sub Quote using an existing Billing Account | No | The child quote already has a resolved Zuora Account ID, so the Subscription Owner Type field is hidden. Only non-conditional fields such as Subscription Owner and Invoice Owner are shown. |
Other considerations
An MSQ is created from a single Salesforce opportunity associated with a single Salesforce account. Although child subscriptions can use different Zuora Billing Accounts as Subscription Owners or Invoice Owners, those accounts are still associated with the same underlying Salesforce account in Salesforce org.
You cannot change the Invoice Owner on a renewal quote. Invoice Owner changes are supported on amendment quotes only.
Subscription Owner Transfer in amendment flows is a separate capability. It is not the same as the Subscription Owner Type picker used for new subscription creation in MSQ.
The zqu__CPQX_Subscription_Billing_Attributes field set is separate from the Subscription Owner field set and applies to all MSQ child quotes regardless of Subscription Owner Type.
In new MSQ quotes, all child subscriptions must share the same currency. The Currency field in the Subscription Owner section applies to the new subscription-owner account, not to the subscription currency.
The New option creates a subscription-owner billing account that is linked to the same Salesforce account as the order-level Invoice Owner. To use a billing account linked to a different Salesforce account, create that account outside the MSQ flow first and then select it through the Existing option.
The New option is available only in the New Multi-Sub Billing Account flow.
